About Agnieszka Matras
Agnieszka is an artist living and working in London over twenty years now. She consider herself a self-taught artist and she works mainly with oils and acrylics. Using a limited palette and traditional approaches to oil paints she tries to convey the beauty of nature and magic of colour on canvas. She pays attention to light and it's impact on the subject matter. Experimenting with colour she accurately captures the mood and atmosphere of scenes in her art. She gets inspired by the beauty of skies and landscapes as well as still life and animals. She doesn't limit herself to any particular subject and will get a brush any time her eyes meet the view that she can't resist to rewrite on canvas. Agnieszka is a member of South London Women Artists acclaimed group launched by the friends of Dulwich Picture Gallery and also a member of few local art communities in South London, which promote art through workshops, art shows and exhibitions. She exhibits regularly within those groups.

Statement
I like to paint natural beauty: green trees, skies, seascapes. Simple words which can describe what I do are „I paint what I see and what appeals to me”. Using limited palette allows me to experiment with colour mixes and textures to achieve a reflection of what I observe. I thrive on anything that reveals colour harmony and obvious contrasts. Light and shadows are also the foundation of my creativity. Constantly changing light and it’s impact on the subject matter are the motive force and endless inspiration for my art. Using various reference materials I work in my studio developing my skills and exploring painting mediums of which I was always curious and passionate about.
